Pink Bouquet Salads!

I was excited to get some watermelon radishes in my weekly organic farm share. I've never had them before. They were crazy peppery, and burned my mouth where they touched (I'm very sensitive to spicy flavors) but the vinaigrette dressing I use helped coat them and make them go down easier. It was worth it though. They're so pretty!

Wednesday, 3/19/14
Organic dried mango, snack mix (Naturebox cinnamon almonds, Naturebox praline pepitas, coconut
chips, and The Good Bean Cinnamon Sugar chickpeas,) organic salad (romaine, cabbage, watermelon
radish, tomatoes, sunflower and chia seeds, hemp hearts, dried cranberries, rosemary vinaigrette)
I peeled and sliced one of the radishes and used my flower veggie cutter to make enough flowers and cut-outs for several salads.

Thursday, 3/20/14
Lucy's GF sugar cookies, grapes, organic salad (romaine, cabbage, watermelon radish, red pepper, carrot, tomatoes, sunflower and chia seeds, hemp hearts, raisins, rosemary vinaigrette)
Cut one, use twice! I had my salad mix already chopped up for the week, and enough radish slices for a second salad. Nom!

Tuesday, 3/25/14
Hail Merry macaroon, Naturebox cinnamon almonds, organic blueberries, organic salad (romaine, frisee,
cabbage, watermelon radish, carrot, sunflower and chia seeds, hemp hearts, raisins, rosemary vinaigrette)
This time I used a fancy flower cutter on the watermelon radish. So pretty! I used a tiny sun cutter on a carrot for some extra fancy. I had leftover frisee lettuce from one of my Plated meals, so it got added in with this week's salad mix.

Wednesday, 3/26/14
GF spinach garlic wrap w/goat cheese, GF vegan Thin Mint cookies, organic kiwi,
organic salad (romaine, frisee, cabbage, watermelon radish, carrots, tomatoes, sunflower
and chia seeds, hemp hearts, raisins, rosemary vinaigrette,) vegan Cocomels
More fancy flowers and some yummy dairy-free desserts! (Goat cheese doesn't have casein or lactose, so doesn't make me sick.)

Thursday, 3/27/14
Organic salad (romaine, frisee, cabbage, watermelon radish, carrots, sunflower and chia seeds, hemp hearts,
raisins, rosemary vinaigrette,) Hail Merry Orange Cranberry Grawnola, organic sweet peppers
Plenty of radish flowers to last all week!

National Pretzel Day-ish

Monday, 4/28/14 - The night before, I had mis-read somewhere that this day was National Pretzel Day, so I got all excited and made simple pretzel-y lunches and snack for my girls. Then I went and looked online and saw I had just missed it by a few days. Doh! Oh well. They were thrilled with their lunches anyway!

Kindergarten Snackerel
GF pretzel sticks, Udi's Ancient Grains Crisps, organic strawberries

Z's morning Kindergarten has a class snack, and lately the other snack parents have been sending Z-safe snacks, so I've been lax about packing one every day. But I made sure to pack some pretzels!

Pretzel-y Lunch for Big Sis
PB sandwich on GF Ener-G pretzel bread, GF pretzel sticks, organic carrots and grapes
I found this "pretzel bread" at a local gluten-free market up near Nana's house when I overheard another customer raving about it. So it was the perfect sandwich choice for what I thought was Pretzel Day!

I didn't want to cut the sandwich into a fancy shape because the crust is covered with pretzel crumbs. It's the best part!

Pretzels for Little Sis
1/2 PB sandwich on GF Ener-G pretzel bread, GF pretzel sticks; organic carrots, tomatoes, and strawberries

Little Sis got a half-sandwich, and a few strawberries on their last legs. Plus little tomatoes. She loves little tomatoes!

Mini Vegetarian Octo-Dogs!

I despise hot dogs. I always have. I hate the smell. I hate the taste. And I hate the nasty ingredients. But my girls both love them. Blarg. Luckily (unlike my husband and I) they also like the gluten-free vegetarian SmartDogs! These make a quick and easy lunch option, with much better ingredients than the meaty version!

I'd Like To Be Under the Sea...
Z's lunch: SmartDog w/ketchup and GF bun, organic kale chips, organic apples
For both girls I cut the veggie dogs first, then cooked them as directed (boiled in the microwave.) With regular hot dogs, the cooking curls the "legs" and emphasizes any features cut into the dogs. Sadly, this is not the case with veggie dogs. *sigh*

...In an Octopus' Garden With You!
E's lunch: Organic apples, snow peas, tomatoes; SmartDog w/ketchup and GF bun
Since there wasn't a lot of room for adding containers of ketchup, I opted to put the ketchup on the buns, even though it makes the whole thing less attractive. On the plus side, it helped hold the legs in place to give the octo-dogs a more "active" look! Win!
