March 2013 Preschool Snacks - Week 1

Monday, March 4 through Thursday, March 7

Monday
Organic apples, clementine, Naturebox BBQ sunflower seeds
The Naturebox BBQ sunflower seeds were one of Z's favorites, and I've made them stretch just about as far as I can since we got them last Summer or Fall - they're gonna expire soon! So time to be more generous! I put a bunch of them in a little flower shaped box found at Easter time last year, as an egg alternative. Thinking outside the {bento} box!

Tuesday
Udi's GF "garlic" bagel, cheese stars, organic apples
The Udi's gluten-free bagels had been on sale at Safeway the week before, so we enjoyed trying them out all week! I toasted hers up and slathered it in butter and some garlic powder and a little salt. The whole thing couldn't quiiiite fit in half of our Lunchbots Duo (mine's an older model. The new ones are squarer,) so I shaved a bit off. Had to taste-test it, right? Yummy! The outer texture is a little strange. Rough rather than smooth and chewy, which is one of the things I love about New York-style bagels. But it is what it is. Can't complain about the taste.
I think the cheese stars in the mini silicone cup (cut with a mini star cutter) were left over from something...  Maybe I did it just for fun. I'm usually too rushed to do anything cute with her snacks, since we only have an hour between the bus dropping her off from her AM preschool until we have to be at her PM preschool, and I'm usually running around trying to feed everyone, packing myself a lunch to eat while baby naps in the car after we drop Big Sis off, etc.

Wednesday
Organic apples, dried seaweed, popcorn, corn chips
For some reason I couldn't find most of my snack boxes, so I picked the Lunchbots Trio. It was clean and I had both parts in one place! Score!
The dried seaweed snack (originally in little rectangular sheets,) popcorn, and corn chips are all from Trader Joe's.

Thursday
Home-made organic purple potato and beet chips, organic apples
Hubby helped me make some purple potato chips and beet chips (really teeny ones! I only had really small beets that week from my farm share!) If it makes you feel better, you can assume they are baked. But I haven't ever had success at crispy baked chips. So Hubby put them in his deep fryer thing for me the night before. Yum!
I didn't want to just send oily veggies, so I put some halved apple slices into a bear muffin cup to fill up the middle.
