Happy Birthday, Baby - FunBites Cube It

To commemorate Baby's first birthday, I made a fun lunch for Little Z to show off take to school. I told her it was full of fun presents... but not the kind you open. And what better way to make little sandwich "presents" than the FunBites Cube It!

Let Them Eat (Cup)Cake!: Leftover artificial-free mini cupcake from Baby's party (Whole Foods.) I stuck in one candle cupcake pick (from a bake shop.) Make a wish!

Present For My Star!: I had a really wide carrot from the organic farm I go to each weeks, so I was able to use my star veggie cutter on the carrot coins. The present-shaped cup came from a kit at Christmastime. (I found mine at Target a few years ago, but I heard they were at A.C.Moore this last year.) The "1st" birthday cupcake pick also came from a bake shop.

Shooting Star:  I put some of my semi-failed attempt at making gluten-free "cookie spread" in a star-shaped cup, and arranged apple slices to look kind of like a tail, or light shooting out. And to fit with the party theme, I added a  party hat cupcake topper.

No Time Like The Presents!: In a jumbo muffin cup (they fit perfectly in the EasyLunchboxes,) I arranged her sandwich presents! I made them by using the Fun Bites Cube It to cut the bread, ham, and cheese separately (I get nicer edges that way. And I didn't want to try punching through a double-decker sandwich!) I smeared a quick blob of mustard on any slice of bread touching meat or cheese, stacked them up, and stuck bow picks through the tops!

Since Baby needs to eat too, and I had leftover bits from Big Sister's lunch, I packed her a bento too! In my new 2-tier Hello Kitty bento box (from Bento For Kidlet. Muah!) I packed the Cube It sandwich bites in the bottom tier, and apple, cheese, and ham scraps in the top.
Naturally, that was the day Baby spiked a fever. Turned out to be Roseola. Joy. So Mama ate most of her lunch. And Big Sis was kind of miffed that Baby warranted a Hello Kitty box. *sigh*

But Wait, There's More!

I have been eagerly awaiting Baby's move from mush to "real" foods. The Cube It is perfect for making baby and toddler-sized nibbles! When I am clever and plan in advance, I bring it with us when we eat out. Instead of burning my fingers tearing nuggets apart to cool, I can just push, rock, pop out, and DONE!  

When I brought our FunBites Cube It to the pizza place for Big Sister's preschool fundraiser night, I saved myself 2+ minutes of trying to hack my way through her slice with their dull butter knife. And I got to enjoy MY slice while it was still hot!

To avoid a mess in your purse or diaper bag after, you could rinse off in the bathroom, or bring a bag to carry it home. I use a small machine-washable cloth "wet bag" so I'm not throwing away or hand-washing a plastic one each time.

And it's not just for babies! Little Z loves her "mini Lunchables" when I cut uncured lunch meats and cheeses into small squares and pair them with mini crackers for stacking. And they are great fun for making potluck meat and cheese party trays for the kiddie crowd!
