Let Them Eat Pooh! Celebrating the Works of A.A. Milne Through Food!

What day is it?"
It's today," squeaked Piglet.
My favorite day," said Pooh.”

“When you wake up in the morning, Pooh," said Piglet at last, "what's the first thing you say to yourself?"
"What's for breakfast?" said Pooh. "What do you say, Piglet?"

"I say, I wonder what's going to happen exciting today?" said Piglet.

Pooh nodded thoughtfully. "It's the same thing," he said.

January 18th is the birthday of author A.A. Milne, most known for his beloved Winnie the Pooh stories. In honor of his birthday, we're celebrating with a food-themed linky. So scroll down to the bottom to see all the Pooh-riffic food ideas (and maybe some from his other works!) Or link up one of your own!

It is more fun to talk with someone who doesn't use long, difficult words but rather short, easy words like "What about lunch?"

"You've Got a Little Pooh In Your Lunch..."
Sprinkles, raspberries, ham and cheddar sandwiches, edamame, Greek "HUNNY" yogurt
Packed in our EasyLunchboxes. Re-usable cloth napkin (with "Owl" on it!) from Red Poppy Cards and Crafts shop on Etsy.

"Well," said Pooh, "what I like best -- " and then he had to stop and think. Because although Eating Honey was a very good thing to do, there was a moment just before you began to eat it which was better than when you were, but he didn't know what it was called.

Heffalumps: I couldn't find anything to pass for a "Woozle," but I found a few elephant forks and elephant picks (I got two packs of each and happened to get different color assortments!)

HUNNY: I chose Greek yogurt in honey flavor, since Pooh's favorite food is honey. I used all-natural chocolate sprinkles to spell out the word "HUNNY," the way that Pooh spells it. If I had remembered, I might have tried to "write" it all cattywompus. But I didn't think of it until now. And it was hard enough getting those little buggers in the right spots as it was! There were several casualties shoved under to drown.
I made this up the night before, worrying that the sprinkles might dissolve overnight. But I knew there was no way I'd have time to make it in the morning. I'm pleased to say it looked just fine the next day, as you can see!

Just for fun I stuck in a bee cupcake pick. I made sure to pack a mini animal spoon so she could eat her yogurt (It was a close one. I almost forgot!) I got mine at Daiso. Love that I had a yellow bear one! How perfect is THAT?

I think I got the Pooh sauce container on eBay. I took off the little spreader (since she wouldn't need it, and why risk losing it?) and put about a teaspoon of the chocolate sprinkles inside. In hindsight, chocolate shavings would have been fun too. (I grind up chocolate chips in a Parmesan grinder!)

Winnie the Pooh (and Tigger Too!): I made the sandwiches using Pooh and Tigger cookie cutter presses (MUCH cheaper on eBay!) I cut each layer separately to get the best edges. Plus I made them triple-decker, to give her more food. (Bread, mustard, ham, cheese, mustard, bread, mustard, ham, cheese, mustard, bread, mustard, cheese.) I used mustard wherever anything touched bread, to help them stay together.

I chose ham for the sandwiches instead of turkey as a nod to Piglet (in a sick, twisted kind of way,) and included a Piglet ring cupcake topper, since there were no Piglet cutters.

I had originally thought to include several balloon cupcake picks, to make it a party, but I had to make a nod to the "Little Black Raincloud" bit where Pooh tries to steal honey by tying a blue balloon 'round his middle and rolling himself in mud. The silicone bee cup holding the raspberries was then the bees chasing him away! (Good luck finding the bee cups online! They're exclusive to Christmas Tree Stores, and I've only seen them on eBay a few times!)

I did put a party hat cupcake topper on Tigger (secured with a few bits of uncooked spaghetti noodle to kind of hold it in place,) for the birthday celebration!

When having a smackerel of something with a friend, don't eat so much that you get stuck in the doorway trying to get out.

Between snack time at school and lunch 45-minutes later, she ate every. last. bite!
And no. I never get tired of talking about lunches full of Pooh!
