Tropical Island Bento

Monday, 8/27/12 - One of our last Summer bentos! This week's Little Gym summer camp theme was "Islands to Icebergs" and was about the different animals, climates, and cultures from around the world.
CoJack and Smoked Gouda cheese fish, grape-and-strawberry kebabs,
PB-chocolate sandwich, hummus, green beans.

Something's Fishy in Paradise: I used a tiny fish cutter to make fish shapes out of Colby Jack and Smoked Gouda (her current fave!) cheeses. I tucked the scraps underneath.

Fruity Flowers: I alternated sliced strawberries and grapes on some hibiscus food skewers. I had wanted to do all five colors, but only four would fit. Boohoo.

Island Girl: I cut a volcano island out of her PB-chocolate almond butter sandwich freehand. I added a hula girl and some palm tree cupcake picks to give it ambiance. And made green bean sea grass, or whatever.
The mini muffin cup of hummus is the sun - or the fiery lava erupting from the volcano, depending on who you ask. Apparently I'm cheerier and more optimistic than my wee girlie. She was very excited at her erupting volcano!

After arguing over the validity of each lunch element ("There are no fish ON an island, Mama!" "Flowers don't grow in the ocean with the fish!" etc,) she ended up not eating most of it, as I recall. The Smoked Gouda and strawberry bits for sure, and nibbles from the sandwich. She may have eaten some or all of her green beans And I think she ate some of the CoJack cheese.

  4. That is cute. I love how you put the cheese scraps underneath because I always wonder what people do when they cut out shapes from the food. I'm too cheap to waste it. ;)
